Description

A thick, nourishing korean moisturizer built on propolis, royal jelly and honey extracts. It is the one to reach for when skin is tight, flaking, or generally behaving as though it has had enough.

Every winter somebody comes in with a routine of nine products and skin that has stopped cooperating. This is the dry skin cream we hand them: heavy, uncomplicated, and nothing in it trying to be clever.

What is in it

Propolis is the resin bees seal a hive with and it has been in Korean skincare for decades for the same reason it is in a hive: it protects a surface. Royal jelly and honey extract carry the moisture. The texture is a true balm-weight cream, not a gel pretending to be one.

The size of it

170ml, which is a large pot — it will last a season of winter evenings. Suitable for all skin types, though oily skin will prefer it at night only.

Good to know

Use clean fingers or a spatula rather than dipping in after cleansing, and close the lid firmly. Keep it out of direct sun and finish it within a year of opening.

A propolis cream sits at the heavy end of a routine and this is the heaviest we stock — the korean skincare answer to a winter that has gone on too long.

Why it is on the shelf

Every winter somebody comes in with skin that has stopped behaving and a routine of nine products. This is the one we hand them: thick, uncomplicated, and nothing in it trying to be clever.

Nine products and unhappy skin is the most common thing we see in January, and the fix is almost never a tenth. Propolis has been in Korean skincare for decades because it does one plain job well, and a korean moisturizer with nothing clever in it is the easiest thing to add back when you have stripped a routine to nothing.

Three ways to use it

  • Winter nights — the last step, over a serum, warmed between the fingers first.
  • Rescue — the only step on a day when your skin has stopped cooperating.
  • Patches — in summer, on the dry areas rather than the whole face.

Before you buy it

This is a dry skin cream at the heavy end of a routine, and oily skin will prefer it at night only. 170ml is a large pot and it will last a season of winter evenings. Warm it between the fingers before it goes on; a propolis cream this thick drags if you apply it cold. Propolis is a bee product — if you react to honey or to bee stings, this is not the korean moisturizer for you.
