Description

A tea tree cleanser with a soft, mildly acidic foam — acidic in the sense that it sits near the skin’s own pH rather than stripping it, which is what a high-pH foam does.

Combination skin that breaks out but cannot take anything harsh is the hardest brief in skincare. A mildly acidic foam is the compromise, and this is a good one.

What is in it

Tea tree extract cleans the pores; glutathione and aloe vera are in there for brightness and moisture, so it does not leave skin squeaking. The foam is soft rather than stiff, which is usually a sign of a gentler surfactant.

The size of it

150ml, a few months at one wash a day.

Good to know

Keep the cap on and the tube out of a sunlit window or a hot car – heat degrades a formula faster than time does. Use it within a year of opening.

Most cleansers pick a side: they treat the oily half of a face and leave the dry half worse, or the reverse. After years of being asked for something that does neither, this is the one we are willing to recommend — and the restraint it needs is part of the recommendation, because twice a day in winter will undo it.

Before you buy it

A combination skin cleanser is only as good as the restraint with which you use it. The foam is soft and mildly acidic, which means it cleans without stripping, but twice a day in winter is still too much for most people. Tea tree can be drying on very dry patches — keep it to the centre of the face if that is you. 150ml is a few months at one wash a day.
