A gommage peeling gel works by rolling: spread it on dry skin, wait for it to set, then rub gently and it comes away carrying dead skin with it. No grit, no scrubbing, nothing to scratch with.

We stopped recommending scrubs years ago and needed something to recommend instead. This is it — a gentle exfoliator for skin that cannot take an abrasive one, and for anyone who has been told to stop using the one with crushed shells in it.

What is in it

Collagen is in the formula to soften as it works. The gel is clear and odourless, and it rolls cleanly rather than shredding, which is the test a cheap gommage fails.

The size of it

180ml, a large tube. Used once or twice a week it lasts most of a year.

Good to know

Keep the cap on and the tube out of a sunlit window or a hot car – heat degrades a formula faster than time does. Use it within a year of opening.

The korean exfoliator we recommend first, and the gentlest piece of korean skincare on the shelf that still does something you can feel.

We stopped recommending scrubs years ago and needed something to recommend instead. A gommage rolls off as it dries, so there is nothing abrasive and it is very hard to overdo.

We stopped recommending scrubs years ago because the damage we saw was almost always from over-exfoliation rather than too little. A gommage is the version that is hard to get wrong: nothing abrasive, nothing to scrub with, and a product that tells you when it is finished. That is why it is the only korean exfoliator we keep in stock.

Three ways to use it

Weekly — on dry skin after cleansing, rolled off and rinsed.
Before a mask — which is when a sheet mask does the most.
On the body — elbows and knees, where a gentle exfoliator is rarely used and most needed.

Before you buy it

Once or twice a week is plenty. A gommage peeling gel is very hard to overdo, which is most of why we stock it, but it is still exfoliation: do not use it on the same evening as an acid or a retinol. It must go on dry skin — on damp skin it will not set and will not roll. 180ml is a large tube and lasts most of a year, so this is the cheapest korean exfoliator per use on the shelf.
