The fabric

A softened denim with some weight to it — enough that the flare falls rather than flaps. The fade is woven and finished rather than bleached in patches.

Looking after it

Wash it inside out, cold, as rarely as you can stand – denim fades at the fold lines first and a hot wash takes the indigo with it. Hang to dry rather than tumbling, which is what shortens a leg by half an inch.
