Description

Half shirt, half jacket, in a charcoal and silver glen plaid woven with enough body to keep its shape. A band of raw-edge fringe runs horizontally across the chest — hand-finished, and the reason this is not just another check overshirt.

The buttons are oversized and marbled in an ebony swirl, high contrast against the weave.

The fabric

A multi-tonal weave with slate, heather grey and crisp white running through it, substantial enough to give warmth without the bulk of a coat. Pointed collar, dropped shoulders, side pockets set in discreetly and button cuffs that adjust.

How it fits

Sized L and cut loose through the body, so it layers over a knit and still buttons. The dropped shoulder is deliberate — it is meant to look borrowed.

Looking after it

Dry clean. Tweed holds its shape because of how it is woven and a machine wash takes that out of it permanently. Brush it down after wearing and air it rather than washing it at every outing.

It is the korean fashion jacket that does the work of a coat indoors, and the cute fall fashion piece that carries an outfit on its own well into korean fashion winter.

Why we took this one

The fringe across the chest is hand-finished and it is the whole reason this came back with us. Without it this would be another check overshirt.

Hand-finishing is the first thing cut when a garment is made to a price, so it is the first thing we look for. It is also what makes this a piece rather than a basic: a plain knit and jeans underneath, and the outfit is finished. Among cute fall fashion buys that is the whole job.

Three ways to wear it

  • Casual — over a cream knit and dark denim, buttoned.
  • Work — over a black polo neck and pressed trousers, open.
  • Layered — under a plain long coat in January, which the dropped shoulder allows.

Before you order

Sized L and cut loose through the body, so it layers over a knit and still buttons. The dropped shoulder is deliberate — it is meant to look borrowed. Keep whatever is underneath plain: the fringe and the plaid are already two ideas. Dry clean it; a machine wash takes the body out of the weave permanently, and the raw-edge fringe will not survive a drum. A korean fashion jacket that does a coat's work indoors.
