The shape is plain and the detail is not. A soft fluid fabric, an A-line that swings a little, a neat collar, and a zip running a quarter of the way down the front with a heart-shaped pull on the end of it.
Zip it to the top on a cold morning, open it to the collarbone the rest of the time. Nothing else about the dress is loud, which is exactly what makes the heart work — it is the only thing on it asking for attention.
The fabric
A soft fluid woven that drapes from the shoulder rather than holding a shape of its own. The sleeves are long with a small puff at the shoulder and a plain cuff; the puff is enough to round the line without turning into a statement.
How it fits
Chest 38–42 inches, length 41 inches, cut to a US small. At 41 inches the hem lands mid-calf rather than at the shin, which is the length that works on a petite frame without being taken up.
Looking after it
Cold machine wash and hang to dry. It presses easily if you want the seams crisp; a warm iron on the reverse is enough. Wash it with like colours for the first few goes.
If you want cute clothes to wear that still look grown up, this is the compromise, and among petite dresses casual pieces it is one of very few that needs no alteration.
