Description

Glen plaid in black and white with a thread of pink running through it — enough to lift the pattern out of the ordinary without making it a colour.

Cut as a proper trench, long to below the knee, in a fabric with enough weight to hang straight rather than flapping. It is the only full-length coat in the shop at the moment.

The fabric

A substantial woven glen plaid, lined, with the structure to hold a collar and a lapel. The pink is in the weave rather than printed over it, so it reads differently depending on the light.

How it fits

Chest 40 inches, length 41 inches, sized L. Cut with room for a knit underneath.

Looking after it

Dry clean. Tweed holds its shape because of how it is woven and a machine wash takes that out of it permanently. Brush it down after wearing and air it rather than washing it at every outing.

As a korean fashion winter coat it is the sort you buy once and wear for a decade — korean style winter wear is built on a long coat and good layers underneath, and this is the long coat.

Why we took this one

A thread of pink through a black and white glen plaid, which lifts the pattern without turning it into a colour. The only full-length coat we have at the moment.

A single thread of colour through a traditional weave costs a mill nothing and changes a coat entirely: at a distance it is a classic, close up it is warmer than it has any right to be. We took it for the cloth rather than the cut, which is usually the right way round with a coat.

  • Casual — over jeans and a knit, where it makes the outfit.
  • Smart — over tailoring, where it finishes it.
  • Accessories — a plain scarf or none, and nothing patterned underneath.

Before you order

Sized L, to a US 12–14, and cut with room for a knit beneath. A trench is a three-season coat rather than a January one — it will want a jumper under it at ten degrees and will not be enough at zero. The plaid is the event, so everything underneath stays plain. Dry clean it. Of our korean fashion winter coat options this is the one that reads most like outerwear and least like a padded shell.
