Description

A finer, softer pile than the plush vest — closer to a shearling than to a shaggy fur, and it sits flatter against whatever is underneath.

It adds warmth across the body and the shoulders without the weight of a coat, which is the reason to own one at all.

The fabric

A short, dense faux fur, cruelty-free throughout and fully lined so it slips over a knit rather than catching on it. Sleeveless, open at the front, cut short.

How it fits

Cut to a US medium. Because it is open and sleeveless the sizing is forgiving; what goes underneath decides the shape.

Looking after it

Spot clean where you can and cold hand wash where you cannot, then dry flat away from heat – a radiator mats the pile and it does not come back. Shake it out and brush the pile in one direction while it is still damp.

It is the korean fashion winter layer that makes a plain outfit look assembled, and the single most photographed thing in the shop around cute clothes for christmas — korean style winter wear at its most useful.

Why we took this one

A finer pile sits flatter than a plush one, which means this goes under a coat as well as over a knit — the plush version only works as the outer layer. That is the difference between a fur vest worn in December and one worn from October to March, and it is the reason we stock both.

Three ways to wear it

  • Day — over a long-sleeved knit and jeans.
  • Evening — over something sleeveless, as the only outer layer.
  • Sleeves — slim underneath, always; volume on volume is a lot.

Before you order

Sized M, to a US 8–10, and because it is open and sleeveless the fit is forgiving — what goes underneath decides the shape. It gives a coat's warmth across the body without the bulk at the arm, which is the whole argument for a fur vest. Shake it out rather than brushing it, and never put it in a drum. For korean style winter wear it is the piece that makes a thin knit enough.
